Le 30 ao\u00fbt 2017, une onde tropicale a \u00e9merg\u00e9 au large des c\u00f4tes de l'Afrique pr\u00e8s des \u00eeles du Cap-Vert. Cette perturbation m\u00e9t\u00e9orologique apparemment anodine allait \u00e9voluer en l'un des ouragans les plus puissants et destructeurs du bassin atlantique : l'ouragan Irma. D\u00e8s le d\u00e9part, les conditions \u00e9taient favorables \u00e0 un d\u00e9veloppement rapide. Les temp\u00e9ratures de la surface de la mer \u00e9taient chaudes et le cisaillement du vent \u00e9tait minimal, permettant \u00e0 Irma de s'intensifier rapidement.<\/span><\/p>

En tant que<\/span> Irma s'est d\u00e9plac\u00e9e vers l'ouest, passant du stade de temp\u00eate tropicale \u00e0 celui d'ouragan \u00e0 part enti\u00e8re le 31 ao\u00fbt. L'intensification rapide s'est poursuivie et, en l'espace de 24 heures, Irma est devenu un ouragan de cat\u00e9gorie 3, c'est-\u00e0-dire un ouragan majeur sur l'\u00e9chelle de Saffir-Simpson. L'artiste Humberto Poidomani,<\/span><\/strong> qui vit \u00e0 Miami, n'est pas \u00e9tranger aux ouragans, puisqu'il en a connu plusieurs au cours de sa vie. Il a observ\u00e9 avec crainte et effroi la mont\u00e9e en puissance d'Irma. Inspir\u00e9 par la puissance et la beaut\u00e9 brutes de la fureur de la nature, Humberto Poidomani a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 travailler sur une s\u00e9rie de peintures pour capturer l'essence de ce qu'il a vu se d\u00e9rouler sur les cartes m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques et les images satellites. Le 4 septembre, Irma avait subi un cycle de remplacement du mur de l'\u0153il, un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne courant dans les ouragans intenses qui entra\u00eene souvent des fluctuations importantes. Toutefois, cela n'a pas emp\u00each\u00e9 la croissance d'Irma. Le 5 septembre, la temp\u00eate avait atteint la cat\u00e9gorie 5, avec des vents soutenus de 175 mph (282 km\/h). Irma \u00e9tait devenue un ouragan annulaire, caract\u00e9ris\u00e9 par un \u0153il large et sym\u00e9trique et une convection intense et uniforme.
Le 6 septembre, Irma a touch\u00e9 terre pour la premi\u00e8re fois sur l'\u00eele de Barbuda \u00e0 son intensit\u00e9 maximale. La petite \u00eele a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9vast\u00e9e. En utilisant de l'acrylique et de la peinture en a\u00e9rosol sur une grande toile, il a captur\u00e9 le chaos tourbillonnant et la puissance brute de l'ouragan qui s'est abattu sur Barbuda. Apr\u00e8s avoir ravag\u00e9 Barbuda, Irma a poursuivi sa marche vers l'ouest. Le passage d'Irma dans les Cara\u00efbes a \u00e9t\u00e9 un cauchemar pour beaucoup. Il a caus\u00e9 des d\u00e9g\u00e2ts catastrophiques dans les \u00eeles Vierges britanniques, les \u00eeles Turks et Caicos et les Bahamas. Chacune de ces r\u00e9gions a subi de graves dommages caus\u00e9s par le vent, des ondes de temp\u00eate et des inondations. Des communaut\u00e9s enti\u00e8res ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9plac\u00e9es et le processus de r\u00e9tablissement a sembl\u00e9 d\u00e9courageant.

En s'\u00e9loignant de Cuba, Irma s'est intensifi\u00e9 au-dessus des eaux chaudes du d\u00e9troit de Floride. Le 10 septembre, Irma a touch\u00e9 terre dans les Keys de Floride en tant qu'ouragan de cat\u00e9gorie 4. L'onde de temp\u00eate a inond\u00e9 les zones de basse altitude et les vents puissants ont caus\u00e9 d'importants d\u00e9g\u00e2ts.<\/span><\/p>
